Why I chose to become a teacher

I am currently attending Grand Canyon University to earn a degree in Elementary
Education & Special Education. One of my assignments was to explain why I chose the teaching field. Here is the answer I came up with:

I am not sure what started my dream to become a teacher. I remember playing school with my younger cousins and I was always the teacher. When I was a junior in high school, I took a class that enabled the students to aid in an elementary class for about an hour a day. At first I was a little overwhelmed being in a classroom of twenty-five first graders. But, as time went on, I truly began enjoying my time in the classroom. The smiles on the children’s faces were all the encouragement I needed to show up every day. This experience is what convinced me that education was the right career field for me. Now that I am able to attend school, I choose to become a teacher because I want to be a positive influence in children’s lives.
I am pursuing degrees in elementary education and special education. I believe that the influences that children have at an early age stay with them for life and mold who they become as adults. As a professional teacher I will do my utmost to inspire and influence children in a positive way. I believe that all children are unique and have their own special talents and abilities. No child is better than another simply because he or she excels in the classroom . I do my best to share this philosophy with my children and hope to one day share it with the children I will have the privilege to teach.

Those of you who are in the teaching field, or pursuing a degree in the teaching field, what led you to this career choice?
